Description
The only piece Zoë was ever commissioned to create — requested by her friend Cindy in the early 1980s, with one specific instruction: birds, with grasshoppers and spiders.
Zoë charged $500 and was pained to take even that. She despised drawing for money. The finished piece hung in Cindy’s bedroom for decades. When Cindy described commissioning it, she traced the edge of the frame with her finger without quite realizing she was doing it.
